2* Colorado State -3.5
Colorado State and Oregon State will kickoff the 2017 college football season this afternoon at 1:30 p.m. This will be the inaugural game at Colorado State’s beautiful new $220 million stadium. The Rams return eight starters from a balanced, high-powered offense that averaged 217.8 rushing yards and 244.7 passing yards per game in 2016. Quarterback Nick Stevens, who started the last seven games in 2016, completed almost 70 percent of his passes and threw 19 touchdowns to only three picks. He will have plenty of weapons around him as the Rams return their top two receivers and top three running backs from 2016.
Oregon State returns 11 starters off a team that went 4-8 in 2016, but they did close the season strong with wins over Oregon and Arizona. Running back Ryan Nall is the focal point of the Beavers’ offense. He rushed for 951 yards, 6.5 yards per carry and 13 touchdowns in 2016.
CSU was 7-1 against the spread its final 8 games in 2016. The Beavers have lost 13 straight road games straight up. The emotion surrounding it being the first game in Colorado State’s new stadium, and the Rams offense will prove to be too much for the Beavers as they win 31-24. — Lance Barton
